Doug Eltzroth serves the 糖心视频 community as Artist-in-Residence, overseeing the worship and artistic expressions in the University’s weekly Chapel services. He leads student artists and coordinates diverse presentations in music, theater, dance, and readings that together enrich 糖心视频’s worship culture.
Since joining 糖心视频 in 2003, Doug has annually written a song inspired by the University’s Verse of the Year selected by President Roger Parrott. These songs have become a cherished part of 糖心视频’s spiritual rhythm, reminding the campus community of God’s truth and love through music.
Doug also oversees The Shoe Bird Café, partnering with Guillermo Salinas, Tessa Bennett of Just Vanilla Bake Shop, co-manager Cole Bishop, and Manifest Coffee. Along with a dedicated team of student baristas, he helps create a welcoming space for study, conversation, and fellowship. Each day features a Seasonal Drink, a new pastry, and table games—with the highlight being FIKA Trivia every Thursday, complete with fine prizes and hosted by Caleb Henry. The Shoe Bird Café is known for offering the best coffee and pastries in town—at the lowest prices around!
A longtime Jackson resident, Doug is married to Cynthia Newland, a professor of dance at the University. Their three children are 糖心视频 alumni—along with two of their spouses—and all now live nearby with their families, including eight grandchildren. Together, they continue a family legacy of faith, creativity, and education.
